Gayle & Eric Locke - Cruise Committee
Editor’s Note: The following e-mail message was received from our intrepid cruise committee.
Hi Everyone!
Gayle and I have just finished our first week of two weeks aboard the sailing ship Star Clipper.  It is another boring day in paradise.  The sun is out and quite warm.  The beach is a stretch of white sand with azure water.  Gayle has been shopping in St Maarten.  Yes, another boring day.
The snorkeling has been great and the beaches are always warm with plenty of activities.  I have been out on the small sailboat several times.  It is great when there is a lot of wind.  We have completed the Leeward Islands from St. Maarten to Dominica.  The coming week will take us to the Treasure Islands and the British Virgin Islands.  It is really going to be tough leaving here for home in Detroit.
We hope all is well with all our friends and hope to see you all soon.

I assume that if you are reading this you are interested in sail boat racing. I further assume, that if you are still reading this after the first paragraph, you either, race your boat or regularly serve as crew on a racing boat because most normal people don’t believe that sail boats go fast enough to race. Normal people consider the term “Sail Boat Race” to be an oxymoron (a combination of contradicting words, such as: corporate ethics, executive leadership or computer technical support.) After all, what other competitive sport can you indulge in while drinking beer? Oh, I know what you’re thinking “What about golf?” No, Golf is not a sport! Golf is a self-indulgent, essentially, solo pastime that was invented by a lonely Scottish Shepard. Golf has no real purpose other than to provide short-term satisfaction at the expense of long-term frustration for those who engage in the practice; it is akin to the very basest form of self-gratification. Sail boat racing, on the other hand, (no pun intended - at least I don’t think it was intended), is a team sport where the fierce competition and gunwale-to-gunwale action recalls the glorious sea battles of yesteryear.
Oh, the thrill of coaxing a few tons of fiberglass to move forward at an eighth of a knot on a windless night! The crew crouching in battle positions that have been predetermined to
