Cruising Column
Gayle & Eric Locke - Cruise Committee
Hi Everyone!
2007 has arrived and the weather as I write this is almost balmy after our single digit temperatures of just a week ago.  We checked on the boat today and Eric is talking about going down to work on her.  He has a lot on his list of things to get accomplished before the cruising season and can’t wait to get started.  Below is a list of the cruises and the leaders we have signed up so far.
Unfortunately Eric and I will not be able to make the Commodore’s Ball this year.  Have one on us and we’ll see you soon.

Report from Strictly Sail Chicago
Sixteen CRCA members went through cold and snowy weather by train or by car to Chicago for the Strictly Sail show in February.
We would like to thank Chicago Fleet 21 All Catalina Association for inviting us to enjoy Strictly Sail Chicago with them and Lake Michigan Catalina Association.
We all had a great time talking with Frank Butler, Sharon Day, and Gerry Douglas at the wine and cheese party held by Catalina on Saturday evening at the show.  Also at the party were Bob Bitchin and Jody from Latitudes and Attitudes Magazine and Bill from Garhauer Marine.  And, we cannot leave out Eric Stone who performed live at the party.
After the show, we all went back to our hotel where Sharon Day and Frank Butler joined us for an evening of celebration with the three Catalina Fleet Associations.  Frank and Sharon held a drawing and the winners from CRCA were Linda Reed who won a Catalina Sweatshirt, and the GRAND PRIZE WINNERS were John and Laura Pecha who won a one week stay in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico at Frank Butler’s four-bedroom condo on Banderas Bay.

CRUISE LEADERS NEEDED
3 more cruise leaders are needed!  Any cruises without leaders by May 1 must be cancelled!
Please contact me if you are able to help out this year.  (We will be out of town from 3/23 – 4/8. If necessary talk to Dee Lundy in our absence.)
If you have never led a cruise you might wonder just what is involved and what your responsibilities are.
First & foremost is to have FUN!  It is hands down the best way to have a very successful cruise.  You may plan any type activity you choose.  From a labor intensive scavenger hunt to just hanging out by the pool!
HINT:  Some of the best cruises have resulted from children’s fun & games.  Try remembering what you did as a kid or tap into your children or grandchildren for fun things they have done at school, church or with scouts.
Second, plan a simple event schedule to post in the Catscan.  This will let other cruisers know when & where to meet for the cruise over, meal plans and any special items they may need to bring.
Third, contact the marina with any changes or concerns you may have 1 to 2 weeks before the cruise.
Fourth, keep a list of those who attended by land or sea and send it to me so I can track who will be eligible for a cruise flags at the end of the year.
That’s it!  Then sit back and relax and enjoy the praise!!
